Vila Real de Santo Antonio

During the 17th century, the town located on this site near the border with Spain was almost completely destroyed by a huge tidal wave. The Marques de Pombal reestablished Vila Real at the end of the 18th century, by constructing the town in gridded format.

It is a pedestrian town with many restaurants and nightspots, and features boat cruises that include dining, swimming and sightseeing in an all-day excursion.
