Tavira attractions

Castelo
Walls with battlements are among the remains of the town castle. The view of Tavira from here is breathtaking, extending from the ornamental rooftops and spires of the many churches beyond the delta of the river to the open sea.

Mercy Church
This Renaissance church, Igreja da Misericordia, contains a portal from 1541. Sometimes the Algarve International Classical Music Festival schedules performances here, and the church is known for its dramatic candlelit services, held at appropriate times throughout the liturgical year.

Torre de Tavira
In 1931, a huge camera was added to this old water tower and it became a watchtower over Tavira, as it photographs the changing views of the town below. It is an intriguing place to visit, and especially refreshing on a hot afternoon.
