Praia da Rocha

Now a highly developed area, Praia de Rocha retains its character and the pristine beauty of the beaches located along the striking red cliffs. There are many hotels, resorts and malls and other amenities nearby. The excellent microclimate of Praia de Rocha made it the first area to be targeted by resort developers—-it is beautifully temperate here all year round.

At Fortaleza de Santa Catarina, a fortified castle from the 16th century, visitors can enjoy a dramatic view of the ocean, the River Arade, and the adjacent port village of Ferragudo. Many modern marinas have recently been built in the area along the river, and there is a concrete jetty that extending far out into the sea.
